What is Victim Offender Mediation?

Victim Offender Mediation is a voluntary process of communication conducted through a neutral person which allows victims to express their needs and feelings and offenders to accept and act upon their responsibilities.

How does it work?

A trained Mediator contacts both victim and offender and with their permission, relays information, exchanges thoughts and feelings about the offence and passes on requests and offers. Victims can obtain answers to questions and offenders be challenged with the consequences of their actions. Usually this series of steps is carried out through the mediator, but if both victim and offender wish, a (face to face) meeting can be arranged on neutral ground.

What is Reparation?

Reparation is a specific act agreed with the victim and carried out by the offender which aims to make amends for the harm or loss the offender has caused.
